At the tender age of 10 years, Venkatesh Kamat set out to conquer the world, leaving his home to seek his fortune in India's commercial capital, Mumbai. Through courage, hard work and determination, he laid the foundation for what was to become India's largest restaurant chain, initiating the Kamat family's saga of success... With his extraordinary, farsighted vision and the unstinting support of his wife Indira , who pledged her jewellery for the birth of Satkar restaurant (1952) which quickly established itself as a city landmark & popular meeting place, growing into the flagship of the Kamat empire. Over the years, he carefully groomed his sons & consolidated the business by Establishing prestigious restaurants in Mumbai , such as Samrat (1972), and Status (1980).
His distinguished contribution of more than 65 years earned Venkatesh Kamat, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Hospitality Industry. His enterprising spirit lives on in his son Vithal Kamat, who has added to the Kamat reputation with the birth of 5 star hotel near domestic airport MumbaiAsia's first certified environmentally sensitive 5 Star Hotel & winner of several global awards... heralding a new era in luxury combined with responsibility.
